Chile 

Streetcar in Santiago

• The town council of Las Condes, part of the Santiago township, called an Ecti expert to promote a streetcar service along the main highway of the district.
  Expert's assignment was to evaluate the feasibility of the project : prospective traffic, integration into the site, available grounds for the maintenance workshop and garage, investment amount.
  The expert met several times the local newspapers and TV stations in order to demonstrate the benefits of the scheme; he also commented them with the civil engineering services.
  This 10 days mission was carried out in perfect cooperation with the town authorities.

France

Boosting a foundry in Hautes Pyrénées

• In cooperation with the Comité Départemental de Développement Economique des Hautes Pyrénées, an Ecti expert in forge and foundry completed a technical audit of a foundry of ferrous metals and aluminium alloys.
  The purpose was to modernize the firm, by transfering the production department to a new and better suited location . The assignment was to evaluate the available structures, to adjust second hand equipment, to estimate new equipment required, investment and moving expenses . Advice was also given about staff problems, productivity and environment .
  Estimates of potential sales in France and in Europe complemented the expert's contribution.
  

Uruguay 

Poultry farming and ovoproducts

• To day, in most industrialized countries, users of eggs have at their disposal “OVOPRODUCTS”, in sterilized or powder form, ready to use, which preserve the qualities of the eggs, without their disadvantages (fragility, risks of bacterial pollution) .
  In URUGUAY, the users, bakers, pastry cookers, noodles manufacturers, asked for such products and in 2001 a company invested in a workshop for manufacturing them : it wanted to check European and especially French experience in that field . 
  
  An Ecti assignment was required with a triple purpose : 

  •  give an appreciation of the production conditions in a poultry farm 

  • give advices about the functioning of the workshop 

  • participate in the popularisation of the products to the customers

With the managerial staff of the company, the Ecti expert made recommendations about process improvements in the fields of production and quality : they have to be implemented in 2002, in collaboration with French companies . On the other hand, the expert presented “OVOPRODUCTS” applications in front of more than 200 local professionals .

Ecuador 

Balsa timber is produced almost exclusively in Ecuador.

•  It is most known for being used in model making. But it has many other applications, much more important. A steadily increasing demand has prompted managers to consult ECTI about ways to increase production. Three missions have already taken place, and a fourth one is being planned.
  The first question was about genetic improvement. The expert realised that it could be of some interest but that much bigger gains could be obtained by improving growing techniques, namely fertilisation, nurseries, reforestation.
  Simple experiments, based on many foreign experiences, have been established, and are beginning to give some results.
  A few trials are being carried out in order to work out a growth and competition model. The results will be available within a few months. The model will allow to improve greatly stand and plantations management.
  Some advice, based on experience from different countries, was given on various issues : pathology, pests diseases and weed control, reforestation of former crop lands.
